Sand for solo guitar

"My main starting point for 'Sand' was the experience of sand I was viewing closely in the palm of my hand, revealing the different colours, sizes and qualities of its grains, which I often enjoyed when wandering along the beaches and sands of East and Midlothian.  Looking for sounds reflecting this particular notion of sand, I started to work with guitarist Yvonne Zehner ...  This piece is extremely difficult to play, requiring the player to develop a range of exciting new virtuoso skills including unusual methods of co-ordination between both hands"  (Julia Deppert)
