Source programmes and brochures

From 1841 to the present day, an annual concert has been given in memory of General John Reid who bequeathed funds to establish a Chair of Music at The University of Edinburgh in 1839 and for a concert to be given on or around his birthday, 13 February, each year. Since 1841 musical performances in the form of concerts and recitals presented by the Department/Faculty of Music/Reid School of Music at the University of Edinburgh have been known colloquially as 'Reid Concerts'.

This website is a database outlining the contents of the available printed evidence of these concert programmes, from 1841 to 2024, and offering some background information on the performers and the performances.
