Reid Concerts at the University of Edinburgh, 1841-2024

...........

From 1841 to the present day, an annual concert has been given in memory of General John Reid who bequeathed funds to establish a Chair of Music at The University of Edinburgh in 1839 and for a concert to be given on or around his birthday, 13 February, each year. Since 1841 musical performances in the form of concerts and recitals presented by the Department/Faculty of Music/Reid School of Music at the University of Edinburgh have been known colloquially as 'Reid Concerts'.

This website is a database outlining the contents of the available printed evidence of these concert programmes, from 1841 to 2024, and offering some background information on the performers and the performances. At the end of 2024 the database will be archived, still readable but unable to be added to or edited.  It has been a wonderful project to work on and I very much hope you wll enjoy exporing this fascinating archive. Thank you.  Fiona M. Donaldson.
