Quartet no. 3 for two violins, viola and violoncello
This work was commissioned by the University of Glasgow for the McEwen Memorial Concert of Sottish Chamber Music in 1966.
The Scottish composer Sir John Blackwood McEwen (1868-1948), bequeathed the residue of his estate to the University of Glasgow for the benefit and promotion of the performance of new chamber works by Scottish composers or composers who have been long-term residents of Scotland. From 1955, to meet the terms of the bequest, the University of Glasgow has commissioned annually a piece of chamber music and a list of the commissions can be found on their website.
