Mackie, Neil, 1946-

Neil Mackie was born in Aberdeen and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before winning a foundation scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London where he later became a member of the Professorial staff.  Since making his London debut with the English Chamber Orchestra under Raymond Leppard in 1974 Neil Mackie has pursued an international career, making his New York debut at the Lincoln Centre in 1979 when still a pupil of Peter Pears.  He has long had a close association with the works of Benjamin Britten and his foremost exponent, Peter Pears.  Neil studied with Sir Peter Pears for 14 years.
