b. Montrose. Violinist and music teacher based in Edinburgh. Leader of the orchestra of the Theatre Royal, Edinburgh from the 1840s.
Son of John Mackenzie, teacher of music, and father of Alexander Campbell Mackenzie, violinist and composer.
