Smalley, Denis, 1946-
New Zealand born composer specialising in elctro-acoustic music. He studied music at the Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Canterbury. In 1971 he left New Zealand on a French Government Bursary to study composition with Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire, where he also studied electroacoustic composition. In 1976 Denis took up a lectureship in Music at the University of East Anglia and later became Professor of Music and Head of the Music Department at City University, London.
