Symphony in B flat, op. 10, no. 2 (Symphony no. 16?)
It is unclear which Haydn symphony this is, since it is not given a number and the movement titles don't exactly match the known Haydn symphonies in B flat major. The programme for 27 October 1938 records that this work was discovered by Hans Gál in the Reid Library in a bound volume of Breitkopf & Hartel's catalogue of symphonies, quintets etc. available in print, manuscript, scores and parts. Musical quotations are not printed in the programme but the movements are listed as Allegro con spirito, Andantino and Presto. Three symphonies of op. 10, published in Amsterdam, are mentioned in a Breitkopf & Hartel catalogue of 1772, leading Dr Gal to suggest that this symphony could have been composed in the 1760s and not later than 1770.
One Haydn Symphony which may match the composition mentioned above is Hoboken No. 16, identified as being written about 1763.
It is in B flat major and the movement tiles are: Allegro, Andante and Presto.
