Begun in 1984 this work was completed in March 1985. It was commissioned by West Midlands Arts for Richard Markham and David Nettle who gave the first performance at Ellesmere College, Shropshire in January 1986. They have since performed it widely in England, Europe and the Middle East. The Scottish Premiere was given by Colin Kingsley and Kenneth Leighton in the Reid Concert Hall on Tuesday 11 November 1986.
