Mjumbo for trombone and tape

Mjumbo, a contraction of 'mumbo-jumbo', was commissioned by Newcastle Media Workshops with funds provided by Northern Arts and was first performed at tje Riverside, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in March 1986.  It is dedicated to Barrie Webb.

Some of the musical material was drawn directly from rhythmic structure and pitch relationships used in West African music, while others are more abstract.  Both natural and synthetic sounds were used.  The tape part was realised in Newcastle University Electroacoustic Music Studio.
