Intrada after Monteverdi
"This was originally written for chamber ensemble, to open a concert given by the New Music Group of Scotland in the 1982 Edinburgh International Festival. In 1983 I made a version for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for a concert celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Edinburgh University. Intrada after Monteverdi is designed as a lively way to start a concert. The material is based on, and eventually quotes, the toccata which precedes Monteverdi's opera L'Orfeo.' E.H.
