Strawson, Virginia, 1961-

Virginia Strawson was born in Oxford and in 1980 she was awarded the Younger Entrance Scholarship to the Faculty of Music, University of Edinburgh where in 1981 she won the Tovey prize for performance on piano.  In Edinbugh she studied piano with Colin Kingsley, Peter Evans and Richard Beauchamp and performed Shostakovich's Piano Concerto no. 2 with the Edinburgh University Musical Society Orchestra in 1985.  Virginia studied violin with Daphne Godson and Warren Jacobs.  In 1986 and 1987 she was awarded Fraser Scholarships by the Faculty of Music to pursue her violin studies, first with Renata Molinari in Gstaad, Switzerland and then with Emanuel Hurwitz in London.
