Sawyer, Philip

Phiip Sawyer was born in Birmingham.  He was educated at the Royal College of Music, at Cambridge University where he was organ scholar of Peterhouse and, at the University of Edinburgh.
He studied organ privately with Piet Kee in Amsterdam and Haarlem and with Rene Saorgin at the Nice Conservatoire.  From 1987 to 1999 Philip Sawyer was Head of the School of Music at Napier University, Edinburgh and was Director of the Scottish Chamber Choir from 1993 to 1997.  In 2000 he returned to being a freelance musician.  He is Director of Music at St Mary's Collegiate Church in Haddington, East Lothian and continuo player with Banquet of Musick.
