Romain, Madame Lucy, 1888-1943

Madame Lucy Romain was the professional name of Mrs Lucy Sklovsky, née Meyer.

Of German origin she had trained as a singer on the Continent and given up her career on marriage.
Her husband was a sugar merchant and they lived in Edinburgh.

Tovey met her in Edinburgh and considered her voice ideal for the role of 'Ariadne' in his opera 'The Bride of Dionysus'.
