Julius Röntgen, b. Leipzig 1855; d. Utrecht 1932 [Name is sometimes printed Roentgen]
Dutch/German composer and pianist.

Friend of Liszt, Brahms, Grieg, Julius Stockhausen, Pablo Casals and Donald Francis Tovey.

Röntgen was Director of the Conservatoire in Amsterdam from 1918-1924
Received an Honorary Doctorate in Music in 1930 from the University of Edinburgh
In his laureation address Professor Tovey said "he [Röntgen] represented in his personality the musical life of the 19th century carried forward into the second quarter of the 20th.  No man living was a more radiant source of inspiration to all the younger musicians who had the fortune to come into contact with him."
