Pauer, E. (Ernst) 1826-1905
Ernst Pauer, b. Vienna 1826; d. Jugenheim, near Darmstadt 1905;
Austrian pianist, teacher, editor and composer
In January 1891, in his capacity as Principal professor of pianoforte playing at the Royal College of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music; Composer Lecturer, Writer on Music and Editor of Musical Works, Ernst Pauer wrote a testimonial in favour of Frederick Niecks, candidate for the Reid Chair of Music at the University of Edinburgh. He considered that Niecks would be "most competent to fill the Chair of Professor of Music, not only with great advantage to the students but also to the undoubted satisfaction of the governing body" and concluded by saying, "his appointment can only be a highly advantageous one for all who study music at Edinburgh University".
