Norris, Philip, 1948-

Philip Norris was born in Sheffield but was brought up in Aberdeen and then in Glasgow where he studied at the University.  In 1969 a Caird Scholarship took him to Cologne to study with Siegfried Palm and later with Maud Tortelier in Paris and Paul Tortelier in Essen.  He held orchestral posts in Wiesbaden and Essen before returning to Scotland in 1981 as principal cellist of the Scottish Opera Orchestra and a member of the newly-formed Anderson String Quartet.
