Massimo, Alberto

Alberto Massimo, born in Cape Town of Italian parentage, read for his first degree at the University of Cape Town from where he graduated in 1984 with a BMus in composition, organ, piano, trumpet and double bass.  He went on to further study at the Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna, the Accademua Chigiana in Siena and the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome.  His teachers included Frano Ferrara, Carlo Maria Guilini, Bruno Aprea and Peter Maxwell Davies. He was later appointed organist to His Holiness John Paul II and was also granted the post of Organist at the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere and of the Chapel of Palazzo Ponziani in Rome.  In 1990 he was undertaking postgraduate study at the University of Edinburgh.  LIves and works in Edinburgh.  Married Victoria Duffus in Edinburgh in 2002.
