Hawes, Maria B. 1816-1886
The contralto Maria Dowling Billington Hawes (1816-86), was the oringal singer of the contrato part in "Elijah." Her married name was Maria Merest.
Daughter of William Hawes of St Paul's Cathedral, English singer, composer and conductor, who produced "Der Freischutz" in Britain. (Musical Monthly Record, Jan 1, 1887)
