Baines, Anthony 1912-1997

Anthony Cuthbert Baines, MA., D.Litt., FBA.,  was an English organist and founder member of the Galpin Society.
Appointed in 1970 as the first full-time curator of the Bate Collection of Musical Instruments at the Faculty of Music, University of Oxford.
On 21 October 1982 he gave a talk at the Reid Conceert Hall on "The Benefits of a University Collection of Musical Instruments" at the opening of the Edinburgh University Collection of Historic Musical Instruments (EUCHMI).  The talk was followed by a concert given by Alan Hacker and The Music Party (see concert listing below).
Anthony Baines was awarded the degree of Honorary Doctor of Music, by the University of Edinburgh in 1994.
