Backhouse, Peter

Peter Backhouse was born near York and began playing the organ whilst a chorister at York Minster. 

Achieved the ARCM diploma while at school and studied music at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1977.
At University he won the Tovey Memorial Prize and the Third Year class medal.
He holds a Fellowship and choir training diplomas of the Royal College of Organists.
For twenty years from 1977 until 1998 he served as assistant organist at St Mary;s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh.
In 1999 he was Assistant Director of Music at The Edinburgh Academy.
Served for two years as President of the Edinburgh Society of Organists.
