Atkinson, Simon, 1969-

Simon Atkinson was brought up in St Albans, studied Music at the University of East Anglia, where he was composition student of Denis Smalley, and graduating in 1990.  As a clarinettist he continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.  In 1994 he was awarded a scholarship at the University of Edinburgh, studying for a PhD with Peter Nelson and Nigel Osborne, graduating in 2000.  

Since 2000 he has been part of the Music, Technology and Innovation Department at De Montford University where he went on to be Principal Lecturer in Music.  His work focuses on musical composition made possible through digital technologies and he is committed to contibuting to the wider understanding and appreciation of contemporary music.
