Historical Concerts presented by Professor Niecks (1893-1914)
From 1894 to 1914 Professor Niecks presented a varied and interesting series of Historical concerts during the academic year to complement his lectures on harmony, advanced harmony, counterpoint, form, aesthetics etc. The concerts were intended mainly for the benefit of the students taking his classes in music but were open to the wider University and members of the public for a small fee and by invitation of Professor Niecks to members of the music profession. The Historical concerts were all presented in the University Music Class Room, mostly on Wednesdays but sometimes on Thursdays or Tuesdays. Niecks was delighted that from 1893 female students were eligible to attend music lectures and also the concerts.
