Dieterich Buxtehude (1637-1707): a tercentenary tribute

Around 1703 the young Bach travelled 200 miles to hear the celebrated Dieterich Buxtehude play the organ in the Marienkirche in Lübeck; we d not have to travel so far in this anniversary year to hear the master's works.  Buxtehude died exactly 300 years ago, in 1707, and we celebrate his achievements in two of the Friday organ concerts (19 January and 9 March).  These will demonstrate the tremendous range and variety to be found in his organ music, and will include dramatic works in the stylus fantasticus and chorale-based pieces - the sort of music that so impressed and inspired the teenage Bach.
