On p.17, the 'raison-d'être' of the Reid Symphony Orchestra is outlined as follows: (1) to provide at moderate prices series of orchestral and other concerts with a wide and representative range of classical and modern music. (2) to provide a body of trained musicians upon whom musical associations and schools may draw for orchestral or chamber music, with the assurance of a high standard of performance; and to provide a nucleus of players for all branches of the teaching profession.
