Tovey’s analytical programme notes for the concerts regularly included musical examples either printed or in his own hand but the note on Mozart’s Overture to “Die Zauberflote” in the Reid Concert on 17 March, 1923 included an excerpt from the full score of the overture as it stands in Mozart’s autograph. Tovey found this example among uncatalogued items in the Reid Music Library in a publication by Andre, (the original publisher of Mozart’s works) and had it printed in the programme.
Tovey wrote a cadenza for the Brahms violin concerto and printed it in full in the programme booklet.
