Today were are to hear the first in a series of three lunch-hour concerts to be given this season introducing the Clarinet Quartets, op. 79.  The Clarinet Quartet no. 1 will be preceded by the Violin Sonata in B flat, K. 378 by Mozart of which the Clarinet Quintet is an arrangement.   
The Clarinet Quartets op. 79 for clarinet, violin, viola and cello, published by Joh. Andre of Offenbach in 1799, are arrangements of two Violin Sonatas, K. 378 (317d) and K. 380 (374f) and the Piano Trio, K. 496.  The Quartets have only recently been rediscovered by the German clarinettist Dieter Klocker in the estate of the late clarinettist, Kurt Rauschenbach of the State Theatre of Braunschweig.
