Inside the programme there was a tribute by Professor Donald Tovey to Sir William Turner, Principal of the University who had passed away the previous week on February 15, 1916.
"By the death of Sir William Turner, the Musical Faculty of Edinburgh University has lost one its best friends ...
... The New Reid Concerts represent at least the fourth of fifth important musical business which Sir William Turner put into proper order since I came to Edinburgh; and it is fitting that the Reid Professor should address to their audience this humble tribute to his memory. At the last Historical Concert the Dead March was played and an appropriate change made elsewhere in the programme. Although the New Concerts are addressed to a different audience, they are on the same foundation, and the ceremony will not be repeated here."
In part two of the programme is asked the question "What can the Reid Foundation do for Scottish Music?"
