The Smithson Quartet performs on original instruments of the Mozart period and was formed in the last few years to be quartet-in-residence of the National Museum of American History (Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC).  Its recording debut was made in 1984.

Piano by Thomas Loud c1815, acquired for the Russell Collection with the aid of the National Museums Purchase Fund and the Fund of the Friends of St Cecilia's Hall, 1979; restored by John Barnes 1983.
