Violin by an unknown English or Scottish maker, c1720 (lent to the Edinburgh University Collection of Historic Musical Instruments by Mrs D. McDonald); violin by Colin Ir by Colin Irving, Guildford, 1985.
Viola da gamba by Matthias and Augustinius Kaiser, Dusseldorf, c1700 (bought for the Edinburgh University Collection of Historical Musical Instruments in 1988 with assistance from the Government's Local Museums Purchase Fund, the General Council Trust of Edinbugh University, the Pilgrim Trust and an anonymous benfactor; viola da gamba bu Guy Derat (1988) after Nicholas Bertrand, 1720.
Two-manual harpsichord by Johannes or Jacques Goermans, Paris, 1764, rebuilt by Pascal Taskin, Paris, 1783-4 (bought by the University of Edinburgh from Mrs Gilbert Russell in 1974.
