Warrack, Guy, 1900-1986

Guy Douglas Hamilton Warrack, Scottish composer and conductor, b. Edinburgh 1900; d. London 1986.

Studied composition under the Oxonian guidance of Sir Hugh Allen and Dr Ernest Walker, and later, after considerable experience as a conductor during a tour in Germany, under Vaughan-Williams and Holst, winning the Foli Prize for composition and the Tagore medal awarded to the best student of the year. 1935-1946: principal conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
1948-1951: conductor at Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet, London
