Soler, Antonio, 1729-1783

Padre Antonio Soler was born in a small Catalonian village in the province of Gerona.  He received his education in the monastery of Monserrat near Barcelona.  The greater part of his life was spent in the monastery of Saint Lorenzo de El Escorial near Madrid, where he died in 1783.  As a monk of the Saint Jeronimo order, Soler was organist and choirmaster in Escorial.  He was also music teacher to the King's sons.
