Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov

Russian composer, b. Tichwin, Russia.
Educated for a military career and was for a time subaltern in the Imperial Marines before abandoning his career to study music.
In 1871 he was appointed Professor of composition at the St Petersburg Conservatoire.
