Nigel Osborne, MBE, FRCM b. Manchester 1948 to Scottish parents
Reid Professor of Music at the University of Edinburgh, 1990-2012
Studied music at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, composition with Kenneth Leighton, his predecessor as Reid Professor of Music at Edinburgh, with Egon Wellesz, the first pupil of Arnold Schoenberg, and at the Warsaw Academy with Witold Rudzinski. He also studied at the Polish Radio Experimental Studio, Warsaw. His works have been featured in most major international festivals and performed by many leading orchestras and ensembles around the world, ranging from the Moscow to the Berlin Symphony Orchestras, and from the Philharmonia of London to the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
