Ortiz de Zarate, Juan, 1959-

Juan Ortiz de Zarate was born in Argentina and studied at the Catholic University of Argentina before embarking on postgraduate study in Stuttgart with Helmut Lachenmann, at IRCAM in Paris and at the University of Edinburgh.  His work 'First Sight for K' won the regional prize for composition in Argentina, from over 700 entries.  He taught in Argentina at the Morón Conservatory where he founded and directed the Department of Contemporary Music.
