Sidney Thomas Mayow Newman was Reid Professor of Music 1941-1970; in post at start of academic year (7 October 1941).

Conductor, composer, pianist and continuo player.
Co-ordinated the arrangements for the re-opening, in 1968, of St Cecilia's Hall in the University of Edinburgh as a concert hall and a home for the Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments
