Mason, William, 1829-1908

Pianist William Mason was the son of Lowell Mason, the hymn composer and the brother of Henry Mason of Mason and Hamlin piano fame.  After studies with his father and Hans Schmidt he went to Europe in 1849 where his teachers included Moscheles and Liszt, with whom he travelled extensively in Europe.  He returned to the Unites States in 1854 and wrote several teaching manuals for piano.
