Mackay, Neil 1947-2023

Scottish composer, lecturer and teacher, living in Edinburgh.  Studied at the University of Edinburgh taking first an MA in History and then a BMus where he studied composition with Hans Gal.  From 1974 he was a composer and lecturer with Edinburgh University Centre for Continuing Education and from 1976 a teacher at the Rudolph Steiner School in Edinburgh.  He published a new edition of Francis George Scott, has contributed to Grove VI, the New Grove Dictionary of Opera and Tempo magazine.  He was from 1987 to 1992 Scottish Music correspondent of The Guardian.
