Joachim, Joseph, 1831-1907

Austro-Hungarian violinist, composer, conductor and teacher.
Joachim founded the Berlin Musikhochschule
In November 1890 Professor Joseph Joachim, Mus. Doc., LL.D., Director of the Royal High School for Music, Berlin wrote a testimonial in support of Frederick Niecks, candidate for the Reid Chair of Music, describing him as "an excellent musician and an admirable writer on the history and theory of music".
Joachim was himself described by his friend Donald Francis Tovey and successor to Frederick Niecks as, "Brahms's chief fellow-worker in continuing the classical tradition"
