His father owned a music shop and was a piano tuner.
English composer, conductor, organist and violinist. Knighted in 1904.
Master of the King's Music(k), 1924-1934 (the 'k' of 'Musick' was dropped during Elgar's service).
His compositions included 'The Nursery Suite' for Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret in 1931.
