Crawford, Robert, 1925-2011
Robert Caldwell Crawford, b. Edinburgh; d. Edinburgh
Scottish composer, violinist and viola player, took violin lessons from the age of five and studied composition privately with Hans Gal before going to London in 1945 to study composition with Benjamin Frankel, taking viola as his second study at the Guildhall School of Music. He worked as a BBC music producer from 1970 to 1985 and in retirement continued to composed in a variety of genres, many written to commissions.
