Bantock, Granville, Sir, 1868-1946

Sir Granville Ransome Bantock, b. London 1868;  d. London 1946

English composer, conductor and editor.
Trained at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

He was successor to Edward Elgar Peyton Professor of Music at the University of Birmingam from 1908 to 1934 and was instrumental in the founding of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
In the 1920s he had an affair with Scottish vocalist Denne Parker.
