Notes:

According to the programme for 26 February 1916 (p.24) Debussy's 'New Violoncello Sonata' was receiving its first performance in Scotland on this occasion.

It should also be noted that although described as a 'violin sonata in D minor', the third item on the programme was in fact Tovey's interpretation of a solo keyboard sonata by Domenico Scarlatti (see p.11 of the concert programme for this date). The movement titles and key strongly suggest that it was the keyboard sonata no. 77 in D minor, Longo no. 168, that was performed on this occasion.

Although the two songs by Brahms, 'Gestillte Sehnsucht' and 'Geistliches Wiegenlied', with viola obligato, are given in the programme as op. 89, they are op. 91.

First Performance in Scotland:
Sonata in D minor for violoncello and pianoforte, L.135 ("Pierrot faché avec la lune")
